Our History
Upholstery services started at Bakker Auto Trim in 1918 near Shelby, MI and was moved to the Pine St. corridor of downtown Muskegon shortly thereafter. Many long time customers recall our former location at the corner of Pine & Hartford in a small former filling station run by Neil and Paul Spoelman. In April of 2016 Bakker relocated to 3148 S. Getty St Muskegon, a 9000 sf facility with better parking/work areas.
What is a Trim Shop?
Trimmers, also known as upholsterers, have been around since before the advent of motorized transportation. The term “trimmer” is said to have derived from the craftsmen that added the interior “trimmings” to coaches of the day. Many people may assume that upholstery strictly refers to the seats. Typical trim shop work can apply to many components of a car’s interior and exterior.
